The printable version is no longer supported and may have rendering errors. Please update your browser bookmarks and please use the default browser print function instead.

This applies to Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and MXWendler version 4.2 until version 5.0

Problem:

  • You want to store/save/restore/edit your configuration. You are used to edit the config file in (MXWendler program location)/config/config.xml, but there is either no file or whatever you change makes no difference to MXWendler

Solutions:

  • Simple, but not recommended: run MXWendler as Administrator
  • Simple, but not recommended: Change the User Account Control (UAC) Level

Recommended: do not alter your system and use MXWendler as a standard user. config.xml is not in the program files directory an more, look for it in

  • C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Roaming\MXW ( 64 Bit OS versions )
  • C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Local\MXWendlerStageDESIGNER ( 64 Bit OS versions )
  • C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\MXWendlerStageDESIGNER ( 32 Bit OS versions )

Background:

  • Since Vista, Windows uses a so-called VirtualStore. For security reasons, a program cannot change any file in the program files directory. So the user is redirected to one of the directories stated above

MXWendler Versions > 5.0

  • These versions store the config.xml in the user directory.
  • Find the location in Settings -> Open config-xml folder
